Pedestrian Struck and Killed On LA 18

Wallace, LA- Shortly before 11 PM yesterday evening, a pedestrian was struck and killed after laying down on LA 18 in St. John Parish.

The investigation revealed that a 1998 Nissan Altima was traveling on LA 18 by West 13th Street in Wallace, LA. The Altima was being driven by Kimberly Stewart (B/F age 31) of Vacherie, LA. As the Altima traveled on LA 18 it struck a pedestrian that was laying in the roadway. The pedestrian was later identified as Felton Breaux Jr. (B/M age 44) of Vacherie, LA. Breaux was pronounced dead on the scene by the St. John Parish Coroner’s Office. Stewart, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the crash.

Impairment is suspected to be a factor. Stewart was cleared of any alcohol involvement and routine toxicology tests are pending for Breaux. This crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
