TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE October 12, 2015 Norwood Man Dies in Two Vehicle Crash in East Feliciana Parish Ethel, LA – Shortly after 10:00 pm on October 11, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash that occurred on LA 19 north of LA 955 in East Feliciana Parish. The crash took the life of 69 year old Jimmie Tant of Norwood, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Tant was traveling northbound on LA 19 in a 2001 Chevrolet S-10. For unknown reasons, Tant lost control of his vehicle and struck a bridge rail. Tant’s vehicle overturned onto its roof and came to rest in the southbound lane of LA 19. At the same time, 48 year old Ryan Connor of Zachary, LA was traveling southbound on LA 19 in a 2003 Ford F-150. Connor was unable to avoid Tant’s vehicle and struck it on the passenger’s side in the southbound lane. Tant was properly restrained at the time of the crash but suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the East Feliciana Parish Coroner’s Office. Connor was also properly restrained and received minor injuries as a result of the crash. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample was taken from both drivers and results are pending. Louisiana State Troopers want to inform motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash and avoiding serious injuries rise significantly when properly restrained. Louisiana law also requires all occupants of a motor vehicle to be restrained, regardless of seating position. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
