Motorcyclist Dies After Being Ejected From Bike

Houma, LA- Shortly after 6 PM yesterday afternoon, a 20 year old Houma man was killed after he lost control of his motorcycle on LA 24 in Terrebonne Parish.

The investigation revealed that a 2009 Suzuki GSXR 600 motorcycle was stopped on Clendenning Road at the intersection of LA 24 for a red traffic signal in Houma, LA. The motorcycle was being driven by Jarred Dupre, (W/M age 20) of Houma, LA. When the traffic signal turned green, Dupre made a left turn onto LA 24 traveling northbound when he began to accelerate at a high rate of speed. Dupre lost control of the motorcycle and traveled off the roadway to the right. Dupre traveled approximately 500 feet and struck a mail box where he was ejected from the motorcycle as it tumbled end over end. Dupre, who was wearing a US D.O.T. helmet, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office.

Investigating Troopers report that speed and lack of riding knowledge may have been factors in the crash. Alcohol impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Routine toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind motorists that driving at high speeds is dangerous, and often leads to serious injuries or death in motor vehicle crashes. Motorcyclists must wear a proper US D.O.T. helmet when operating their motorcycle on Louisiana roadways. Although not all crashes are survivable, properly utilizing safety equipment like approved motorcycle helmets and seatbelts decrease your risk of serious injury or death.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
