Double Fatality In Assumption Parish Crash

Labadieville, LA- Shortly after 7 PM this evening, a 25 year old Thibodaux woman and a 65 year old Thibodaux man were killed in a head on crash on LA 1 in Assumption Parish.

The investigation revealed that a 2001 Ford Expedition was traveling north on LA 1 in Assumption Parish near the Lafourche Parish Line. The Expedition was being driven by Janay Starks (B/F age 25) of Thibodaux, LA. The Expedition crossed the center line and struck a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado head on in the southbound lane of LA 1. The Silverado was being driven by Milton Duet (W/M age 65) of Thibodaux, LA. Starks, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on scene by the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office. Miguel Reid (B/M age 29) of Houma, LA, was a passenger in the Expedition and was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center with critical injuries. Reid was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Duet, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office.

Alcohol use is suspected to be factor in the crash. Routine toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind motorists of the dangers of impaired driving. While there have been fewer deaths associated with impaired driving in recent years, there is still much room for improvement. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.


Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
