TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE October 12, 2015 Speed Suspected to be a Factor in Crash that Killed Unrestrained Driver and Passenger in Iberville Parish Plaquemine, LA – At approximately 10:00 am on October 12, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash that occurred on LA 75 south of LA 3066 near Jack Miller’s Landing in Iberville Parish. The crash took the life of 45 year old James Henson Jr. and 33 year old Cynthia Lewis of Plaquemine, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Henson was traveling southbound on LA 75 in a 2000 Ford Explorer at a high rate of speed. Henson failed to negotiate a left hand curve and ran off the left side of the roadway. Henson’s vehicle began to overturn and came to rest after striking a utility pole. Henson and Lewis were unrestrained at the time of the crash and suffered fatal injuries. They were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Iberville Parish Coroner’s Office. It is unknown if impairment is a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample will be taken from Henson for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers would like to reiterate the importance of seat belt use. Wearing your seat belt is the single most important thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Remember, all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. Contact Information: | |||
