Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE January 16, 2013 Thibodaux Man Arrested In Hit And Run Fatality The Louisiana State Police along with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office spent the last two months investigating a hit and run fatality that occurred on LA 3185 near LA 1 in Lafourche Parish. Yesterday afternoon an arrest was made in the two month long hit and run investigation. The crash occurred on November 10th of last year. The Hit-&-Run vehicle described as a Chevrolet Z71 was pulling out of a private drive. A 2003 Yamaha motorcycle, operated by Karey Authement (W/M age 41) of Baton Rouge, La, was westbound on LA 3185. While the Yamaha was traveling west, the Z71 failed to yield to the motorcycle as it made a wide right turn onto LA 3185. Authement took an evasive maneuver by laying the motorcycle down. During the time of the maneuver and/or striking the Z71, Authement was ejected from the motorcycle; at which time, the Z71 rolled over him. Authement was transported to Thibodaux Regional by Acadian and then flown to University of New Orleans were he later passed away. The Chevrolet Z71 fled the scene of the crash. State Police along with the assistance of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated multiple leads in reference to the case. One of the leads led to the arrest of Arthur Meads of 132 Violet Street, Thibodaux, LA. During questioning Meads confessed to the hit and run. Meads was booked into the Lafourche Parish Jail and was charged with Felony Hit and Run, Negligent Homicide, Driving Left of Center, and No Driver’s License.
