Larose Man Killed on LA 3235 in Morning Crash

Galliano, LA- Shortly after 6 AM this morning, a Larose man was killed in a two vehicle crash on LA 3235 in Lafourche Parish after his vehicle struck another vehicle in the rear.

The investigation revealed that a 2006 International single unit flatbed truck was traveling south on LA 3235 in the right lane approaching LA 3162 in Lafourche Parish. The International was being driven by Gary Bourgeois (W/M age 61) of Westwego, LA. As Bourgeois approached the intersection, he began to slow down due to a red traffic signal at the intersection. Before Bourgeois could come to a stop, the traffic signal turned green, and he began to proceed forward. At the same time, a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling south on LA 3235 in the left lane approaching the LA 3162 intersection. The Silverado was being driven by Jason Guidry (W/M age 46) of Larose, LA. As the Silverado approached the intersection, it changed into the right lane of LA 3235. For unknown reasons, the Silverado struck the International in the rear as the International was crossing the intersection. Upon impact, a large welding machine in the rear of the Silverado slid forward crushing the cab around Guidry and trapping him. Guidry, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Bourgeois, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Lady of the Sea Hospital with minor injuries.

Alcohol use is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Routine toxicology tests are pending for Guidry. Blood was taken from Bourgeois and the test results will be pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind motorists to always be aware of their surroundings and avoid distractions while driving. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
