TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE August 4, 2013 Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Unknown Hit and Run Vehicle After Lying in Roadway Bourg, LA- Shortly before 2:00 AM this morning, Louisiana State Police Troop C was notified by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office about a pedestrian that was struck and killed while lying in the road by an unknown hit and run vehicle on LA 24 at mile post 23.80 near the Lafourche/Terrebonne Parish line. The investigation revealed that a pedestrian, Jay Curler (W/M age 29) of Galliano, LA, was struck and killed while lying on the road of LA 24 near box number 437 in Terrebonne Parish. Witnesses to the crash stated that Curler was lying on the southbound shoulder with the top portion of his body in the southbound lane of LA 24. Witnesses also stated that Curler was struck by a vehicle traveling south on LA 24. After the hit and run vehicle struck Curler it fled the scene and continued to travel south on LA 24. Curler was pronounced dead on the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Witnesses to the crash stated that the hit and run vehicle was a passenger car with square shaped head lights and tail lights. No further description was given on the hit and run vehicle. Alcohol use is suspected to be factor for Curler. Routine toxicology tests are pending. Alcohol use is unknown for the driver of the hit and run vehicle. This crash remains under investigation. | |||
