TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE August 18, 2013 One Dead and Three Serious Injured in LA 18 Crash St. James, LA- Shortly before 6 PM this evening, a St. James man was killed and three others seriously injured as two vehicles struck head-on in St. James Parish. The investigation revealed that a 2004 Jeep Liberty was traveling south on LA 18 approaching a right curve in the road. The Liberty was being driven by Julio Cuxum (O/M age unknown) of Baton Rouge, LA. As the Liberty exited the right curve in the road, it entered the northbound lane and struck a 2004 Infinity I35 head-on that was traveling north on LA 18. The Infinity was being driven by Antonio Harrison (B/M age 52) of St. James, LA. Harrison, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene by the St. James Parish Coroner’s Office. Cuxum, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales with serious injuries. Two passengers in the Infinity, who were not wearing seat belts, were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries. Alcohol use is suspected to be factor in the crash for Cuxum. Blood was drawn from Cuxum and the test results will be pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Routine toxicology tests are pending for Harrison. This crash remains under investigation. | |||
