TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE September 16, 2013 Waggaman Man Dies after Causing Multi Vehicle Crash on LA 3127 in St. John Parish Vacherie, LA- Shortly after 5 AM this morning, Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a fatality crash on LA 3127 in St. John Parish near the St. James Parish line where a Waggaman man was killed and two others injured after he improperly passed a vehicle and caused a multi vehicle crash. The investigation revealed that a 2013 Nissan Altima was traveling north on LA 3127 just south of 3213. The Altima was being driven by Alloyd Rideaux (B/M age 37) of Waggaman, LA. The Altima was passing another northbound vehicle when it sideswiped a 2010 Ford F-150 traveling south on LA 3127. The F-150 was being driven by James St. Pierre (W/M age 58) of St. Amant, LA. After sideswiping the F-150, the Altima continued to travel north in the southbound lane and struck a 2008 Ford F-250 head-on that was traveling south on LA 3127. The F-250 was being driven by Rickey Hebert (W/M age 46) of Thibodaux, LA. The F-250 was immediately struck a second time by a 1994 GMC Sierra that was traveling south on LA 3127. The Sierra was being driven by Roy Mahler (W/M age 50) of Thibodaux, LA. Rideaux was pronounced dead on the scene by the St. John Parish Coroner’s Office. It is unknown if Rideaux was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Rideaux’s front seat passenger, Clara Williams (B/F age 34) of Waggaman, LA, was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries. It is unknown if Rideaux or Williams were wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. St. Pierre, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the crash. Hebert, who was wearing a seat belt, received moderate injuries in the crash and was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center. Mahler, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the crash. Alcohol use is unknown at this time and routine toxicology tests are pending for Rideaux. Blood was taken from Hebert and will be pending at the State Police Crime Lab. St. Pierre and Mahler submitted to breath tests and were cleared of any alcohol involvement. This crash remains under investigation. Troopers remind everyone to only pass vehicles when it is safe to do so and when it is in a legal passing zone. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police. Contact Information: Tfc.
