Baton Rouge Woman Dies after Striking 18-Wheeler in East Feliciana Parish

Ethel, LA – Shortly after 10:00 am on December 5, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash on LA 955 west of LA 19 in East Feliciana Parish. The crash took the life of a 33 year old Kristy Weatherman of Baton Rouge, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Weatherman was traveling westbound on LA 955 in a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country. At the same time, 56 year old Fredric Jones of Osyka, MS was traveling eastbound on LA 955 in a 2009 International 18-wheeler. For unknown reasons, Weatherman’s vehicle crossed the centerline into the eastbound lane and struck the rear axle of Jones’ trailer.

Weatherman was properly restrained at the time of the crash but sustained fatal injuries. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by the East Feliciana Parish Coroner’s Office. Weatherman’s unrestrained 22 year old passenger sustained serious injuries after being partially ejected from the vehicle. Weatherman also had two infant passengers in the vehicle. They were both properly restrained and sustained moderate injuries. Jones was properly restrained and was not injured. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash, but a toxicology sample will be taken from both drivers for analysis.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
