TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE July 24, 2013 Motorcyclist Dies After Crash on LA 316 Houma, LA- Shortly after 6 PM yesterday afternoon, a 32 year old Houma man was killed after being ejected from his motorcycle when he crossed the centerline and struck a vehicle on LA 316. The investigation revealed that a 2003 Kawasaki KX250 off road motorcycle was traveling north on LA 316. The motorcycle was being driven by Shane Alexander, (W/M age 32) of Houma, LA. After coming out of a right hand curve in the roadway, the motorcycle crossed the centerline of LA 316 and entered the southbound lane. The motorcycle struck the left front fender of a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado that was traveling south on LA 316. The Silverado was being driven by Tony Martin, (W/M age 46) of Bourg, LA. After striking the Silverado, Alexander was ejected from the motorcycle. Alexander, who was not wearing a US D.O.T. helmet, was transported to Terrebonne General Hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries sustained in the crash. Martin, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the crash. Investigating Troopers report that alcohol impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Martin submitted to a breath test and was cleared of any alcohol involvement. Routine toxicology tests are pending for Alexander. This crash remains under investigation. Troopers remind motorists that driving at high speeds is dangerous, and often leads to serious injuries or death in motor vehicle crashes. Motorcyclists must wear a proper US D.O.T. helmet when operating their motorcycle on Louisiana roadways. Although not all crashes are survivable, properly utilizing safety equipment like approved motorcycle helmets and seatbelts decrease your risk of serious injury or death. | |||
