TROOP C NEWS RELEASE
July 21, 2013
Unrestrained Driver Killed in Lafourche Parish Crash

Golden Meadow This morning shortly before 7:30 am, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 308 near Rapheal Project Rd. in Lafourche Parish. The crash took the life of 27 year old Golden Meadow resident Colby A. Charpentier.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Charpentier was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on LA 308. For unknown reasons, the Silverado ran off of the roadway to the right. Upon leaving the roadway, the vehicle entered into a field and ran into a ditch. After entering the ditch, the Silverado flipped several times before striking a utility pole.

Charpentier was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He sustained fatal injuries from the crash. Driver impairment is not suspected; however, Troopers have submitted a toxicology sample from Charpentier to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.
