Driver Later Dies at Hospital from Injuries Sustained in Crash

Gray, LA- Shortly after 12 AM this morning, Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a two vehicle crash on LA 316 in Lafourche Parish where a man later died at University Hospital from his injuries sustained in the crash.

The investigation revealed that a 1997 Ford Taurus was traveling north on LA 316 by the Bayou Blue Bypass Road. The Taurus was being driven by Jeremy Duet (W/M age 22) of Gray, LA. A 2008 Nissan Titan was traveling south on LA 316 approaching the Taurus. The Titan was being driven by Edmond Gros (B/M age 32) of Vacherie, LA. For unknown reasons, the Taurus traveled off the right side of the road as it entered a left hand curve on LA 316. Duet over corrected as he attempted to re-enter LA 316. The Taurus began to rotate counter clockwise across LA 316 and crossed the center line where it was struck broadside by the Titan. Duet, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to University Hospital in New Orleans where he later died from his injuries. Gros, who was wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries in the crash.

Gros, who submitted to a breath test, was cleared of any alcohol involvement. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind motorists to always be aware of their surroundings and avoid distractions while driving. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
