TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE October 26, 2015 Pedestrian Dies After being Struck by Vehicle in East Baton Rouge Parish Crash Baton Rouge, LA – At approximately 9:30 am on October 26, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash involving a pedestrian that occurred on US 190 west of US 61 in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 53 year old Timothy Bird of Port Allen, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 22 year old Delvonte Wiley of Port Allen, LA was traveling westbound on US 190 in a 2000 GMC Sierra while towing a 2005 GMC Yukon. Wiley came to a stop in the left lane of US 190 and Bird exited the Sierra to check on the tow strap connecting the two vehicles. At the same time, 33 year old Chauntel Barnett of Denham Springs, LA was traveling westbound on US 190 in a 2006 Toyota Corolla. Barnett noticed the two vehicles stopped in the roadway and attempted to steer around them. Barnett struck the Yukon causing it to strike Bird. Bird was transported to the Our Lady of the Lake Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Wiley and Barnett were properly restrained and were not injured. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample was taken from Wiley and Barnett. Wiley was issued a citation for Simple Obstruction of a Highway of Commerce.
