Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck in Terrebonne Parish

Schriever, LA- Shortly after 7 AM this morning, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle as he walked on the shoulder of LA 20 in Terrebonne Parish.

The investigation revealed that a 2001 Nissan Sentra was traveling south on LA 20 in the left lane. The Sentra was being driven by Guy Cheramie (W/M age 30) of Thibodaux, LA. As the Sentra traveled south on LA 20, it drifted onto the left shoulder and struck a pedestrian that was walking south on the shoulder. The pedestrian was later identified as Nicholas Shaw (W/M age 24) of Thibodaux, LA. Shaw was transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital where he later died from his injuries sustained in the crash. Cheramie, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the crash.

Cheramie submitted to a breath test and was found to be under the legal limit of .08g%. A urine sample was taken from Cheramie and the test results will be pending at the State Police Crime Lab. Impairment is not suspected for Shaw, but blood was taken and the test results will be pending at the State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation.
