One Killed And One Injured After Vehicle Flips Several Times

Houma, LA- Shortly after 5:30 PM yesterday afternoon, an 18 year old was killed and a passenger injured after his vehicle left the roadway and flipped several times on LA 182 in Lafourche Parish.

The investigation revealed that a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse was traveling eastbound on LA 182 just east of LA 3087. The Eclipse was being driven by Billy Tyson (W/M age 18) of Houma, LA. The Eclipse was traveling at a high rate of speed when the vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway into the rocky median where it flipped over several times. The Eclipse rolled into the westbound lanes of LA 182 where it came to rest on its roof. Tyson, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. A 16 year old passenger (W/M from Houma, LA), who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Ochner St. Anne Hospital with minor injuries.

Alcohol use is unknown at this time and routine toxicology tests are pending. Speed is suspected to be a factor and this crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind motorists of the dangers of driving at high speeds. Drivers must obey all posted speed limits. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
