Marrero Woman Dies In LA 182 Crash

Shortly before 7 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a crash on LA 182 in Lafourche Parish where a woman lost her life in a vehicle crash.

The investigation revealed that a 2003 Ford F-250 was traveling west on LA 182 just west of US 90. The F-250 was driven by Leonard Bennett (W/M age 55) of Folsom, LA. Bennett’s vehicle sustained a blowout causing the vehicle to travel off the road to the left into the median. The F-250 entered the eastbound lanes of LA 182 where it struck a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria. The Crown Victoria was driven by Cokeoshia Baker (B/F age 31) of Marrero, LA. Bennett, who was wearing his seat belt, was transported to Terrebonne General with minor injuries. Baker, who was wearing her seat belt, was pronounced dead on scene by the Lafourch Parish Coroner’s Office.

Investigating Troopers report that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Blood was taken from Bennett and the test results will be pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
