TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE
April 16, 2012
Injuries From Weekend Crash Takes Life Of Pedestrian

Shortly after 10 PM Friday evening, Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a crash on LA 24 South in Terrebonne Parish where a pedestrian later died from his injuries.

The investigation revealed that a 2008 Hyundai Sonata was traveling south on LA 24 South. The Sonata was driven by Zachary Dufrene (W/M age 26) of Houma, LA. For unknown reasons a pedestrian, Danny Ledet (W/M age 53) of Raceland, LA, walked into the path of the Sonata and was struck. Ledet was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, where he later died Saturday morning from his injuries.

Investigating Troopers report that impairment is unknown at this time. Blood was taken from Ledet and the test results will be pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation.

Pedestrians should always be aware of their surroundings and make sure to cross intersections and streets when it’s safe to do so. Remember to wear bright and reflective clothing when walking or bicycling at night. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
