Regarding Fatal In Lafourche Parish
Unrestrained Child Dies In Crash

Around 9:30 PM yesterday, Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a single vehicle crash on LA 308 near LA 304 in Lafourche Parish. The investigation revealed that a 1995 Ford F-250 Dually, driven by Kevin Vicknair (W/M age 25) of Napoleonville, LA, was traveling north on LA 308 approaching LA 304, when it traveled off the road on the right hand side. Vicknair’s vehicle struck a culvert and re-entered the road. As the vehicle re-entered the road it began to rotate and came to rest on its side.

Vicknair, who was not properly restrained, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital. Vicknair had two children in the vehicle at the time of the crash. A four year old boy, who was not properly restrained, sustained minor injuries and was also transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital for treatment. Natalie Vicknair (W/F age 3), who was not properly restrained, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office.

Investigating Troopers report that alcohol may be a factor in the crash. Blood was taken from Vicknair and the test results will be pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
