TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE January 6th, 2012 Three Vehicle Crash Ends In Fatality This morning, shortly before 7am, Louisiana State Police Troop C responded to a three vehicle crash on LA 3266 in Thibodaux, LA. The crash claimed the life of a Napoleonville man. According to the investigating Troopers, a 1989 Nissan 240 was traveling east on LA 3266. The Nissan 240 was being driven by Delainly Sawyer (B/M, 22 years old) of Napoleonville, LA. Mr. Sawyer crossed the center line of LA 3266 and entered the opposing lane. Mr. Sawyer’s vehicle struck a 1996 Ford Explorer being driven by Kevin Johnson (B/M, 43 years old) of Thibodaux, LA. After striking the Explorer, Mr. Sawyer’s vehicle came to rest in the westbound lane of LA 3266 where it was immediately struck by a third vehicle. The third vehicle was a 2004 Dodge Stratus being driven by Bonnie Thibodaux (W/F, 45 years old) of Thibodaux, LA. All three drivers were transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center for their injuries. Mr. Sawyer died shortly after his arrival at the hospital. Investigating Troopers report that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Everyone involved in the crash was properly wearing their seatbelts. This crash remains under investigation. While not all crashes are survivable, the proper use of seatbelts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.
