TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE January 23, 2012 Single-Vehicle Crash Ends In Fatality Shortly before 9 a.m. this morning, Louisiana State Police Troopers began investigating a single-vehicle crash on LA 182 east of LA 3087 in Lafourche Parish. According to the investigating Troopers, a 2001 Nissan Sentra was traveling west on LA 182 in a slight left curve. As the Sentra entered the curve, it ran off the road to the left into a rock filled median. The driver then over-corrected to the right crossing back over LA 182, and veered off the right side of the roadway striking several trees. The driver, Jordy Savoie (W/M age 20) of Raceland, LA, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. A passenger in the vehicle, Cody Stevens (W/M age 20) of Hammond, LA, was transported to Terrebonne General Medical Center with moderate injuries. Both the driver and passenger were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Investigating Troopers report that alcohol impairment is unknown at this time and routine toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police. Contact Information: Tpr.
