TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE January 30, 2012 Serious Injury Crash In Lafourche Parish Shortly after 5 p.m. yesterday afternoon, Louisiana State Police Troopers began investigating a single-vehicle crash on LA 308 south of Peltier Drive in Raceland, LA. According to the investigating Troopers, a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle was traveling north on LA 308 approaching a slight left curve. As the motorcycle entered the curve, it ran off the road to the right. After leaving the roadway, the motorcycle struck a driveway causing the motorcyclist to be ejected from the bike. The driver of the motorcycle was identified as Raymond Mackey (B/M age 28) of Thibodaux, LA. Although Mackey was wearing a US D.O.T. approved helmet, he sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center. During the investigation it was discovered that Mackey did not have a motorcycle endorsement or a Driver’s License. Troopers suspect that alcohol and speed may have been a factor in the crash. Blood was taken from Mackey, and the test results are pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation. Troopers remind motorists that driving at high speeds is dangerous, and often leads to serious injuries or death in motor vehicle crashes. Motorcyclists must wear a proper US D.O.T. helmet when operating their motorcycle on Louisiana roadways. Although not all crashes are survivable, properly utilizing safety equipment like approved motorcycle helmets and seatbelts decrease your risk of serious injury or death. Never drive a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Troopers encourage the public to report impaired or aggressive driver by dialing *LSP (*577) from your cellular phone to reach the Louisiana State Police in an effort to ensure the safety on our roadways.
