TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE February 4, 2012 Young Female Dies In Single Vehicle Crash Just before noon today, Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a one vehicle fatality crash on LA 20 near St. Patrick Street in St. James Parish. The investigation revealed that a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am was traveling south on LA 20 when it ran off the road. As the vehicle left the road it struck a ditch causing the vehicle to overturn. The driver, who was not wearing her seatbelt, was partially ejected from the vehicle as it overturned. The driver of the vehicle, Nicolette Douglas (W/F age 18) of Vacherie, LA, was transported to St. James Hospital where she died from injuries sustained in the crash. Troopers do not suspect that alcohol was a factor in the crash. Blood was taken from Douglas, and the test results are pending. This crash remains under investigation. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police. Contact Information: Tpr.
