Eighteen Wheeler Crash Claims The Life Of Driver

This morning, shortly before 5am, Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a one vehicle fatality crash on US 90 near Chacahoula, Louisiana. The investigation revealed that a 2006 Volvo Tractor Semi-Trailer, eighteen wheeler, was traveling east on the elevated portion of US 90 Eastbound, when it struck an impact attenuator at the LA 20 off ramp. The vehicle then traveled off the elevated portion of the highway and fell 32 feet, burying the cab of the truck into the marsh.

The driver of the vehicle, Tracey Ann Lemon (W/F age 32) of Utica, MS, was properly wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. Lemon, who had to be extracted, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office.

Investigating Troopers report that alcohol impairment is unknown at this time, but fatigue may have been a contributor in the crash. Routine toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.
