Schriever Woman Killed in Three Vehicle Crash on LA 24

Schriever, LA- Shortly before 3:30 PM this afternoon, a 73 year old Schriever woman was tragically killed as a vehicle struck the passenger side of the vehicle where she was sitting.

The investigation revealed that a 1995 Buick Century, driven by Warren Morvant (W/M age 74) of Schriever, LA, was exiting the St. George Bridge attempting to make a left turn onto LA 24 North. The Buick was struck on the right side by a 2009 GMC Yukon traveling north on LA 24 North. The Yukon was being driven by Sharone McPherson (B/F age 34) of Thibodaux, LA. After the impact, the Buick rotated counterclockwise off the left side of the road, crossing the median, and coming to rest in the southbound lane of LA 24 South. The Yukon continued straight on LA 24 north after the impact and was struck in the rear by a 2012 Nissan Maxima traveling north on LA 24 North. The Nissan Maxima was being driven by Jaynee Thompson (W/F age 22) of Berwick, LA. The Yukon, after being struck a second time, overturned and came to rest off the roadway. Warren Morvant, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital with moderate injuries. McPherson, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Terrebonne General with moderate injuries. Thompson, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital with minor injuries. Geraldine Morvant, front seat passenger in the Buick, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Geraldine Morvant (W/F age 73) of Schriever, LA, was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Blood was taken from Morvant and McPherson with the test results pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Thompson submitted to a breath test and was cleared of any alcohol involvement. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind motorists to always be aware of their surroundings. Taking the time to drive defensively can mean the difference between getting in a crash and avoiding one. Troopers also stress the dangers of impaired driving. While there have been fewer deaths associated with impaired driving in recent years, there is still much room for improvement. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
