Troop C - NEWS RELEASE 21 Year Old Man Died After Sustaining Critical Injuries in Crash on LA 70 On Thursday, October 25, 2012, at approximately 4:40 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a critical injury crash on La 70 near Shell Beach Road in Assumption Parish. Miles Liner (W/M, age 21) of Berwick, was transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital with critical injuries as a result of the crash. Mr. Liner was pronounced dead on October 27, 2012. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Yancy Hebert (W/M, age 46) of Pierre Part, was traveling east on LA 70 and due to driver impairment and error, the Silverado crossed the center line into the westbound lane. The Silverado impacted a 2006 Nissan Sentra, driven by Mr. Liner, which was traveling in the westbound lane. A passenger in the Sentra, Taylor Adams (W/F, age 20) of Morgan City, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Teche Regional Hospital. Hebert sustained minor injuries and was treated by Teche Regional Hospital. Driver impairment is suspected for Hebert and toxicology test results are pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Hebert was charged with Driving Left of Center and First Degree Vehicular Negligent Injuring. Further criminal charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Nearly half of all the fatal crashes in Louisiana last year involved driver impairment. Troopers see the devastating effects of drinking and driving across the state day after day. The poor decision to get behind the wheel of a vehicle impaired is often coupled with the poor decision to not buckle up. This combination of poor decisions proves deadly all too often. Motorists are urged to help in the fight against drunk driving by making good decisions every day, such as NEVER driving impaired, ALWAYS buckling up, NEVER getting into a vehicle with an impaired driver, and NEVER allowing an impaired driver to get behind the wheel.
