Larose Woman Later Dies at Hospital from Injuries Sustained in Crash

Shortly before 11 AM yesterday, Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a vehicle crash on LA 3235 in Lafourche Parish where a woman later died from her injuries.

The investigation revealed that a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling northbound on LA 3235 in the right lane. The 2004 Silverado was being driven by Jason Smith (W/M age 36) of Leesville, LA. A 1993 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling northbound on LA 3235 in the right lane in front of Smith’s vehicle. The 1993 Silverado was being driven by Nancy Danos (W/F age 62) of Larose, LA. The 1993 Silverado slowed to make a right turn onto West 23rd Street when it was struck from behind by the 2004 Silverado. Danos’ vehicle was then pushed forward until it struck a utility pole. Danos, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Lady of the Sea Hospital. She was then transported to Oschner Hospital in New Orleans where she later died from her injuries. A 15 year old in Danos’ vehicle, who was wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries in the crash and was also transported to Lady of the Sea Hospital. Smith, who was wearing a seat belt, wasn’t injured in the crash.

Investigating Troopers do not believe alcohol is a factor. Smith, who submitted to a breath test, was cleared of any alcohol involvement. Routine toxicology tests are pending for Danos. This crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
