TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE September 24, 2013 *UPDATE* Unidentified Man Dies in Fiery Crash on LA 1 in Lafourche Parish Positive identification has been made on the driver of the Nissan Xterra. The driver was identified as Wilton Dinger III (W/M age 35) of Thibodaux, LA. Mathews, LA- Shortly before 11 PM last night, Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a single vehicle crash on LA 1 in Mathews, LA, where an unidentified man was killed after his vehicle crashed and caught fire. The investigation revealed that a 2001 Nissan Xterra was traveling north on LA 1 in Lafourche Parish. As the Xterra was traveling on LA 1 it entered a slight left curve in the roadway. The driver failed to negotiate the curve and traveled off the road to the right. The Xterra entered a ditch and traveled for a short distance until it struck a concrete driveway embankment. The Xterra burst into flames when it struck the embankment. The driver was unable to escape the vehicle and perished in the fire. The driver is unidentified at this time and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Investigating Troopers are currently working on positively identifying the male driver. Alcohol use is unknown at this time and routine toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation. Troopers remind everyone to remain safe on the roads and never get behind the wheel of a vehicle if you have had any alcoholic beverages. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police. Contact Information: Tfc.
