Single Vehicle Runs off Road into Bayou Black; Claims Life of Houma Woman

Gibson- On Sunday evening, September 21, 2008 at approximately 5:10 PM, Troop C troopers were notified of a single vehicle crash on LA 182 in the Gibson community of Terrebonne parish.

A 2001 GMC Yukon, driven by Sarah Daigle (W/F, 57, of Patterson, LA), was traveling east on LA 182 exiting a slight right curve. The Yukon drifted across the westbound lane and off the roadway to the left. The Yukon then struck a rock/asphalt pile. The rock/asphalt pile acted as a ramp causing the Yukon to leave the ground and travel through the air. The Yukon landed in Bayou Black and became submerged. After submerging into the bayou, Sarah Daigle and Mary Daigle (passenger) remained in the vehicle and were removed by passer-by's.

Sarah Daigle received moderate injuries and was transported to Terrebonne General by Acadian Ambulance. The only passenger, Mary Daigle (W/F, 47, of Houma, LA), sustained life threatening injuries and was also transported to Terrebonne General by Acadian Ambulance. Mary Daigle died at Terrebonne General early this morning.

Both were properly restrained and alcohol usage is not suspected. Blood and urine test are pending. TFC Louis Toups is continuing his investigation.
