Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: October 11, 2008 Fatal Crash Involving a Child On Friday, October 10th, 2008 at 4:06 pm, Louisiana State Police, Troop C investigated a fatal crash involving a child on Thomas Drive in the Village East subdivision in Terrebonne Parish. The crash involved a 2004 Honda CRV driven by Michael A. Woods (B/M, 25 yrs) of Houma and a pedestrian, Rykia Johnson (B/F, 6 yrs) of Houma. The Honda was traveling southbound on Thomas Drive at a high rate of speed in a posted 25 MPH zone. The pedestrian was crossing Thomas Drive at which time the Honda CRV struck her. After the impact, the pedestrian was pushed under the vehicle onto the roadway and drug approximately 72 feet before coming to a stop. The pedestrian, Johnson was transported to Terrebonne General Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Honda, Woods was booked at the Terrebonne Sheriff’s Office Lock-up, in Houma with Negligent Homicide and Careless Operation. It is unknown at this time if driver impairment is a factor in the crash. (Results pending a toxicology examination) Trooper Celestin is continuing her investigation. For more information contact:
