Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: October 12, 2008 Single Vehicle Fatal Crash on LA 57 On Sunday, October 12, 2008 at 2:00 am, Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on LA 57 at American Boulevard, near the Ashland North subdivision. The crash involved a 1997 Honda Civic driven by Deidre Riggs (B/F, 36 yrs), of Houma. The Honda was traveling southbound on LA 57 when the driver, Riggs failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The Honda then veered off the roadway to the right at which time the driver over corrected and crossed LA 57 exiting the left side of the roadway entering a ditch and striking a culvert. After entering the ditch and striking the culvert, the Honda rolled over ejecting the driver, Riggs who was unrestrained at the time of the crash. As a result of the crash, Mrs. Riggs suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. It is unknown at this time if driver impairment is a factor. (Results pending a toxicology examination.) Mrs. Riggs was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash. Trooper Harding is continuing his investigation.
