The Lafourche Levee District has placed these large sandbags in an attempt to raise the roadway to the actual levee height. There is a small passageway for passenger vehicles to pass through the makeshift levee at the top of the floodgate. Large vehicles, such as tractor-trailers can not pass through this passageway. Please be aware that LA 1 is a curved road at this point and the sandbags are difficult to see if motorists drive too fast or not paying attention. Be sure to drive with caution at all times.
