Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE 10-Year Old Girl Dies in One-Vehicle Crash BAYOU L’OURSE- On Monday, September 8, 2008 at 6:06 a.m., State Police- Troop C investigated a fatal crash on LA Highway 662 north of US Highway 90 in the community of Bayou L'ourse involving one vehicle. Shamon Young (B/F, 27 years old, of Houma, LA) was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer northbound on LA Highway 662 when she entered a right-hand curve in the roadway. After exiting the curve into a straightaway, she veered off the roadway to the right. Young over-corrected her steering in an attempt to regain control of her vehicle. Her vehicle began to yaw as it veered across the roadway and ran off the roadway to the left. The vehicle then struck a ditch where it overturned. The driver and five occupants sustained minor to severe injuries. None of the occupants was wearing seat belts. A 10-year old female passenger sustained fatal injuries during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in this crash; however, a chemical test was administered to Young. Charges have not yet been filed pending chemical test results from the State Police Crime Lab. *****UPDATE***** The following passengers have been identified: Tysheria Verrett- 10- B/F (Deceased) Naamah Scott- 19 - B/F Kayla Celestin- 17- B/F Jermeka Scott- 17- B/F Additionally there was a 3-year old B/F and 6-year old B/F who were passengers inside of the vehicle at the time of the crash.
