Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: November 24, 2008 Passenger Dies in Single Vehicle Crash in Assumption Parish Napoleonville- On Sunday, November 23, 2008 at approximately 11:00 PM, Troop C responded to a single vehicle crash on LA 1 in the Napoleonville area that claimed the life of the rear seat passenger.Rodolfo Saul Torres Sanchez (31, of Mexico) was operating his 1994 Volkswagen south on LA 1. He was traveling at a high rate of speed exiting a left curve. As Sanchez exited the curve, he lost control of his vehicle. He overcorrected, left the road to the left, and struck a house at 4966 Hwy 1, Napoleonville, LA. The vehicle striking the house caused some bricks to strike a properly parked unoccupied vehicle. Sanchez’s vehicle overturned and struck a fence where it came to rest. Sanchez received minor injuries and was transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital by Acadian Ambulance. There were two other occupants in Sanchez’s vehicle. The front seat passenger, Joel Dela Cruz (24, of Mexico) received critical injuries and was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA. The rear seat passenger, Armando Santiago Luencas (28, of Mexico) received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office. Seat belt use for Sanchez is unknown at this time. Cruz was wearing his seat belt. Luencas was not wearing his seat belt. Sanchez was charged with: DWI 1st offense, Vehicular Homicide, Vehicular Injuring, Reckless Operation, No Driver’s License, and Operating a vehicle without lawful presence in the United States. After his release from the hospital, he was transported to the Assumption Parish prison for incarceration. Trooper Dustin Richard is continuing his investigation.
