Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: January 1, 2009 Mother Dies; Son Lives After Both Being Ejected in Montegut, LA Montegut- On New Year’s Eve night, a Chauvin woman and her son were ejected from their vehicle as it flipped several times off LA 58 in southern Terrebonne Parish. On December 31, 2009, at approximately 7:40 PM, a 1995 Nissan Maxima, driven by Erica White (B/F,28, of Chauvin, LA) was traveling west on LA 58 in the small community of Montegut. For unknown reasons, the Nissan crossed the center line and went off the eastbound side of the road where it struck a ditch embankment. After impact with the embankment, the Nissan flipped several times causing the driver and passenger to be ejected. White was transported to Chabert Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance for life-threatening injuries. While at the hospital, White died as a result of her injuries. The passenger (B/M, 10, son of White, of Chauvin, LA) sustained minor injuries and was transported to Chabert Medical Center where he was later released. Alcohol and drug use are unknown, but it is not suspected. Neither of the two passengers were wearing seat belts. Tpr. Brent Haynes continues his investigation. This is the ninth fatal crash resulting in nine deaths ending the month of December 2008.
