Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: January 3, 2009 First Serious Injury Crash of 2009 for Troop C Area Houma- Last night, a Houma man critically injured himself when he was ejected from his motorcycle after he ran off of LA 182 into a marshy area in Houma, LA. Johnny Johnston (W/M, 33, from Houma, LA) was operating his motorcycle, a 2008 Suzuki GSX1300R, eastbound on LA 182 (east of the Lake Houmas Inn) at a high rate of speed when the driver attempted to pass several eastbound vehicles. Witnesses stated that as the motorcycle attempted to pass the vehicles, it "popped a wheelie" and was traveling on its rear wheel. As the driver attempted to re-enter into the eastbound lane, the motorcycle ran off of the roadway to the right, traveling into the marsh. As the motorcycle traveled into the marsh, Johnston was completely ejected. Johnston received critical injuries in the crash. He was transported to Terrebonne General Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance. He was wearing his motorcycle helmet. There were no other occupants on the motorcycle, and no other vehicles involved. Alcohol use is suspected. A blood test has been conducted, and the results are pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab in Baton Rouge, LA. No charges are pending. This crash occurred on January 2, 2009 at approximately 10: 40 PM. TFC Chris Celestin is continuing his investigation.
