Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: January 12, 2009 ***UPDATE*** Warrant Issued as Search For Driver Continues Troop C- Late Friday, January 9, 2009, a warrant was issued for the registered owner of a 1998 Ford Escort. The registered owner, Santiago Osorio Rodriguez, has been identified as the suspected driver of the car that struck and killed Dwain Carrell in Galliano, LA on December 26, 2008. On January 5, 2009, Troop C received information that the hit and run vehicle was possibly at mechanic shop on East 123rd Street in the South Lafourche area. Upon investigating, the owner had stripped the vehicle’s parts and sent the shell of the vehicle to Southern Scrap in Houma, LA. The front hood, door, bumper, and left front fender were all parts found with damage consistent with striking a person. Upon investigating the shell of the vehicle at Southern Scrap, troopers found the headlight assembly in the trunk of the vehicle. The broken headlight assembly matched the debris found at the scene of the crash. Days later, an informant came forward with information that Rodriguez was the person who struck and killed Carrell. Lafourche Parish warrant issued for Rodriguez is for the following charges: Felony Hit and Run, Operating a vehicle without lawful presence in the United States, and no driver’s license. The Lafourche Parish warrant will be executed with full extradition. Louisiana State Police Troop C would like to thank all media and especially the citizens of the community for all the calls and information received regarding solving this fatal hit and run crash. Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Hit and Run Driver in South Lafourche Galliano- A man was struck and killed by an unknown southbound vehicle on LA 3235 just north of the Galliano Wal-Mart at approximately 7:05 PM on December 26, 2008. Anyone knowing any information at all about this hit and run fatality crash should call Troop C at (985)857-3680. Dwain Carrell (W/M, 55, of Cut Off, LA) was removing debris from the left southbound lane of LA 3235 when he was struck by an unknown southbound vehicle. Carrell was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries he sustained from being struck. A minimal amount of physical evidence was recovered from the scene, but anyone having any information regarding this hit and run should call Louisiana State Police Troop C as soon as possible. Senior Trooper Louis Toups is continuing his investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available.
