TROOP A NEWS RELEASE
December 15, 2015
Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Vehicle in Iberville Parish Crash

Plaquemine, LA Shortly before 5:00 am on December 15, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash involving a pedestrian on LA 405 south of LA 75 in Iberville Parish. The crash took the life of 25 year old Jermaine Taylor of Plaquemine, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Taylor was walking southbound in the northbound lane of LA 405 wearing all black. At the same time, 28 year old Kane Ourso of Plaquemine, LA was traveling southbound on LA 405 in a 2009 Ford F-250. Ourso moved into the northbound lane and began passing a slow moving vehicle. As Ourso was passing the slow moving vehicle, he struck Taylor in the northbound lane.

Taylor was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Iberville Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. A toxicology sample was taken from Taylor for analysis. Ourso was given a chemical breath test for intoxication registering no detectable signs of alcohol.

Troopers urge pedestrians to maintain a heightened level of awareness while walking near the road. Simple precautions such as wearing reflective materials, avoiding distractions, and walking a safe distance from travel lanes while facing oncoming traffic could help prevent many pedestrian related crashes.

Both motorists and pedestrians are urged to call *LSP (*577) to reach the nearest LSP Troop location to report roadway incidents or request assistance if needed.
