Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: January 29, 2009 ***LA 1 Closed*** Corrosive Liquid Spills in South Lafourche Larose- Approximately 200 gallons of a corrosive liquid has spilled from a vehicle’s load onto the highway in the Larose area of southern Lafourche Parish. Both LA 1 and LA 657 are currently closed and are expected to remain closed for approximately 6 hours. Shortly after 4:00 PM today, an ACE Transportation vehicle lost its load while turning from LA 657 onto LA 1 southbound. The load was two containers of a corrosive liquid. Approximately 200 gallons of the liquid spilled onto the ground. There is no immediate danger to persons or property and there are no evacuations at this time. Lafourche Parish Haz Mat and Louisiana State Police Haz Mat are currently working on scene. There are troopers and deputies at the scene diverting traffic from LA 1 onto LA 308. The LA 1 southbound traffic is being diverted onto LA 308 by way of the Larose Pontoon Bridge. The LA 1 northbound traffic is being diverted by way of the Cut Off Bridge (McDonald’s Bridge). Remember the estimated road closure time is only an estimate and may be shorter or longer dependent upon the clean-up process. ES&H is the company responsible for the clean-up.
