Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: February 1, 2009 Terrebonne Parish Crash Claims Life of a Young Montegut Man Bourg- Minutes after midnight this morning, a single vehicle crash on LA 55 claimed the life of a 20 year old man from Montegut, LA on LA 55. A 1997 Ford Taurus was being driven northbound on LA 55 (approximately 1 mile south of LA 24) by Travis D. Harper (W/M, 20, from Montegut, LA) when the vehicle approached a left curve. Due to driver error, the vehicle began to yaw and rotate counter clockwise when it then left the roadway to the left. Once off of the roadway, the vehicle rotated completely around and struck a tree on the driver's side door. The driver, Harper, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing his seat belt. There were no other occupants of the vehicle and no other vehicle was involved. Alcohol use is unknown. A blood test has been conducted and the results are pending from the Terrebonne Parish Coroner's Office. Tpr. Ben Thibodeaux is continuing his investigation. This crash occurred on February 1, 2009, at approximately 12:05 AM.
