Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: February 2, 2009 Lockport Man Dies in Crash with 18-Wheeler Lockport- This morning at approximately 7:00 AM, a Lockport man was killed after the pickup truck he was driving struck the flatbed trailer portion of an 18-wheeler. Joe C. Buck (B/M, 49, of Opelousas, LA) was traveling south on LA 1 near Lockport in a 2000 Kentworth tractor pulling an empty flat-bed trailer. Buck entered a sharp right curve and the rear of the towed flatbed trailer began to slide forward in a clockwise motion toward the tractor. The trailer then crossed the center line and went into the northbound travel lane. While the trailer was in the northbound lane, it struck a northbound 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Darrel A. Savoie (W/M, 48, of Lockport, LA). After the vehicles came to rest, Savoie was trapped in his vehicle was extricated from his vehicle. Savoie was wearing his seat belt. Savoie was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner's Office. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor; however, toxicology results are pending from the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Buck submitted to a voluntary breath analysis test. Results of that test indicated no alcohol with BAC results of .000 g%. Any charges are pending further investigation. Senior Trooper Kirk Foret is continuing his investigation.
