Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: December 24, 2008 South Lafourche Crash Results in Fourth Fatality in December Leeville- One man died last night after he drove his pick-up truck across the center line of LA 1 and struck an 18-wheeler head-on just north of Leeville, LA in Lafourche Parish. A 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Samuel Weaver (W/M, 48, of Roseland, LA) was traveling south on LA 1 just north of Leeville. Weaver crossed the center line into the path of a northbound 2007 Freightliner Tractor/Trailer driven by Ralph Thomas (B/M, 58, of Kenner, LA). Both vehicles struck head-on in the northbound lane. After impact, the Freightliner became engulfed in flames, but the driver escaped the burning vehicle. Weaver was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Thomas sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Lady of the Sea by Lafourche Ambulance. Alcohol use is unknown with results pending from both drivers. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts. This crash occurred at approximately 9:15 PM on December 23, 2008. S/T Tony Eymard is continuing his investigation. Three of the four fatalities this December have occurred in the South Lafourche area.
