Edmonson, Superintendent Lafourche Parish Crash Leaves One Dead November 30, 2008 Louisiana State Police – Troop C investigated a single vehicle crash on LA 1 within Lafourche Parish. The crash occurred shortly after 8:00pm last night, when a 1997 Jeep Cherokee was Northbound on LA Hwy 1, approximately five miles South of Fourchon, La. The driver and only occupant, forty-nine year old Fernando Alvarez, of Austin, Texas, entered a left hand curve in the roadway. Alverez lost control and drove off the roadway to the right. After leaving the roadway, the vehicle flipped and came to rest upside down in the bayou. Mr. Alvarez was under water for an extended period of time and was pronounced dead at the scene. Alverez was seat belted at the time of the crash and alcohol use is unknown at this time. “Alcohol or Drugs, Impairment is Impairment!
