Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: August 10, 2008 Driver Killed, Passengers Injured in St. James Parish Crash On Sunday, August 10, 2008 at approximately 6:00 PM, Troop C troopers were notified of a single vehicle fatality crash on LA 18 near the Shell Plant in St. James Parish. A 1993 Infinity J30, driven by Van Travis (B/M, 30, of Vacherie, LA) was traveling north on LA 18 when it traveled off of the road to the right while exiting a left curve. Travis overcorrected to the left, crossed both lanes of travel, and exited the roadway to the left. The left side of the Infinity struck a utility pole before coming to rest. There were three occupants of the vehicle. Van Travis was wearing his seat belt during the crash and was transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital by Acadian Ambulance with what appeared to be moderate injuries. Van Travis later died at the hospital. The front right passenger, Shawn Keller (B/M, 32, of Edgard, LA), was not seat belted and sustained critical injuries in the crash. Keller was transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital by Acadian Air Med. The right rear passenger, Shaffon Lewis (32, of Vacherie, LA), was not wearing his seat belt and transported to Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge by Acadian Ambulance with moderate injuries. Alcohol use is suspected and blood tests are pending analysis. Tpr. Corey Pennison continues his investigation into the crash.
