| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: April 10, 2008 Car Strikes Farm Tractor in South Lafourche; Kills One On Thursday, April 10, 2008 at approximately 8:30 am, a passenger car struck the rear of a farm tractor on LA 3235 in Galliano in Lafourche Parish. The driver of the farm tractor was thrown from the vehicle and died as a result of his injuries. A 2002 Mercury Sable driven by Amy Ougel (W/F, 24, of Lockport, LA) was southbound on LA 3235 in the outside lane. A Mahindra Model C7010 farm tractor, driven by Gerard Melancon (W/M, 63, of Galliano, LA) was also southbound on LA 3235 in the outside lane after exiting a private driveway ahead of the Mercury. As Ms. Ougel approached the rear of the farm tractor, she realized that she was going to collide with it and instead suddenly steered to the left to avoid the crash but was unsuccessful. After impact, the farm tractor rotated clockwise and rolled onto its left side. Mr. Melancon was ejected from the farm tractor. The Mercury Sable came to rest on top of Mr. Melancon causing fatal injuries. Alcohol is not suspected on the part of either driver; however, blood was drawn from both drivers for analysis. Ms. Ougel was wearing her seatbelt. Charges are pending and Trooper Donnie Callais is continuing his investigation.
