For Immediate Release Chauvin Man Critical After Crash on LA 56 February 27, 2008 On Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 0042 hours, Troy Lirette, 37, of Chauvin, LA was operating his 2000 Jaguar XK8 southbound on LA 56 when his right tire ran off the roadway to the right, due to excessive speeding, after exiting a left curve in the roadway. He overcorrected in his attempt to return to his lane, and then his vehicle began to rotate counterclockwise as it veered across both travel lanes. The vehicle eventually ran off the roadway to the left where it struck a street sign and utility pole. Liretteās vehicle sustained severe damage, and he was ejected from his vehicle during the crash. Lirette was not wearing his seat belt. Lirette sustained serious injuries and was transported to Leonard Chabert Medical Center. Alcohol or drug-use is unknown with results pending from the LSP Crime Lab. Speed estimates from yaw marks at the scene put the vehicle just over 100 mph prior to running off the roadway to the left. The speed limit where the crash occurred is 50 mph. Trooper Brian Harding is the investigating trooper and continues his investigation.
