For Immediate Release Dulac Man Critical After Crash on LA 57 February 27, 2008 On Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 0106 hours, a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu was being driven southbound on LA 57 just south of Thompson Road when, due to driver error, the vehicle left the roadway to the right. Once off of the roadway, the vehicle struck a culvert with its left front corner. After striking the culvert, the vehicle overturned. The driver of the vehicle, Randy Theriot, 46, of Dulac, LA was fully ejected from the vehicle. Randy Theriot was transported to Chabert Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance with critical injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt. There were no other occupants in the vehicle. Alcohol or drug-use is unknown; however, per Louisiana state law a blood test has been conducted and the results are pending from the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab in Baton Rouge. Charges are pending the results of the blood test. Tpr. Ruben Brown is the investigating trooper and he continues his investigation. This was the second critical crash within an approximate 25 minute time frame. Neither driver was wearing a seat belt during their crash. If a community wants to reduce their critical injury crashes and fatality crashes, it requires 100% of everyone to wear their seat belts. We as a community have to remember the importance of wearing seat belts and the possible consequences of not wearing them.
