For Immediate Release Hit and Run Fatality in South Lafourche January 28, 2008 On Sunday, January 27, 2008 at approximately 10:12 pm, a bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle on LA 308 in Larose (near the Larose Truck Plaza) in Lafourche Parish. The vehicle that struck the bicyclist immediately fled the scene. Rigoberto O. Valladares, a 41 year old Hispanic male, of Lockport, LA, was riding his bicycle on the southbound shoulder of LA 308 in Larose near the Larose Truck Stop. Valladares attempted to cross LA 308 and entered the southbound lane at which time he was struck by an unknown southbound vehicle. Upon impact, Valladares was ejected from the bicycle coming to rest in the northbound lane on LA 308 while Valladares' bicycle came to rest in the southbound lane. Valladares was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Lafourche Parish Coroner Dr. Walter Birdsall. Vehicle parts recovered from the crash scene by the investigating Troopers indicates the suspect vehicle to possibly be a white Chrysler, unknown model. We need everyone to be on the lookout for a possible white Chrysler product. As soon as more information becomes available concerning a more precise vehicle description, it will be passed on so the citizens of this area can help us find the vehicle and person that committed this crime. If a suspect vehicle is located, please call Troop C at 985-857-3680 or dial *LSP on your phone to report it. Alcohol or drug use on the bicyclist is unknown and results are pending analysis. Tpr.
