TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE October 9, 2015 Unrestrained Driver Dies in Head-on Crash in Livingston Parish Livingston Parish – Shortly before 7:00 am on October 9, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash that occurred on LA 42 east of LA 63 in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of 44 year old Angela Wilson of Livingston, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Wilson was traveling eastbound on LA 42 in a 1994 Chevrolet Silverado. At the same time, 55 year old Phillip Fournier of Ponchatoula, LA was traveling westbound on LA 42 in a 2000 Dodge Ram. For unknown reasons, Wilson’s vehicle crossed the center line into the westbound lane of LA 42 and struck Fournier’s vehicle head-on. Wilson was unrestrained at the time of the crash and suffered fatal injuries. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office. Fournier was properly restrained and received moderate injuries as a result of the crash. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample was taken from Wilson and Fournier and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers want to inform motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
